In most home the attic is the room upstairs that is extremely hot and is not finished. It has open floors and what little space it does have is used to store the Christmas decorations. However, there are some homes that have a large enough attic that they can turn it into a bedroom.
These trendy bedrooms are the most challenging to design because there is such limited space and it is in such an unusual shape that we often don’t know what to make of it. Before you begin decide on whose room it will be. If it is larger why not turn it into the master bedroom? If it is smaller your child might love it or you can keep it as a guest bedroom.
One of the hardest things to decide is where to place the bed. Most people will place it off to the side and not in the center. This will leave you enough space for a dresser or side table. However, this does not mean you cannot place it in the center. It is always best to place it where the highest part of the ceiling is and where the fan will be over your head. Remember that hot air rises and this will be the hottest room in the house.
The colors that you choose should match the theme that you wish to use in your room. The roof will often make the room look small so you should keep away from using dark colors on all of the walls. This will only make it look smaller. Why not place a tan or light brown on all of the walls – but one. This once accent wall can be painted with dark brown.
If you have space try to add in a small reading area off to the other side of the room. This will give you a small space where you can relax and it helps to add character to the room. If you would prefer you can instead use a small table with a television on top of it.
