Trendy Bedroom Design

Pictures, tips and ideas for designing a trendy bedroom.

The bedroom is the one room in our home where we spend most of our time. Most of us will decorate the living room to look like something out of a magazine so that others will be comfortable with it. The bedroom is our own personal space and as such we want it to look trendy – but at the same time we want it to reflect exactly who we are.

Research shows that when you have a cluttered bedroom or if you do not feel relaxed and comfortable in it you will not sleep peacefully. Lack of sleep is never fun and will make us irritable and unable to perform in our work the way that we should. The best way to fix this problem is to sit down and think about exactly what you would love to see. If you are having trouble trying to come up with ideas try to read bedroom design magazines and books or watch some design shows. You will be surprised at the ideas that will come to you.

Before you start planning anything you first need to set a budget for yourself. This will keep you from going overboard and doing anything crazy. Don’t limit yourself too much or else you will sacrifice on many things that you would really love to have. A great way to decorate is to do things in increments. Maybe one month you can buy the pain, the next the furniture, and the next the wall décor.

Theme

When choosing a theme to create a trendy bedroom you are really trying to focus more on what type of colors you want to use. We are more mature now and trying to put up posters of our favorite rock bands would look quite odd. Save these items for your office or game room where they will work better in. The best themes to stick with are modern, contemporary, and classic.

Dark Colors

Whether you are designing a bedroom for yourself or as a couple dark colors are great to use. Red, burgundy, brown, green, and blue are some of the best to use. Try not to go to dark because it will make the room look smaller and it might make you feel a little too subdued. It is great to contrast the colors by choosing a very deep color for one wall (the accent wall) and use a slightly lighter color for the rest of the walls. You can mix dark brown and light tan and dark red and light brown.

Furniture

It is always best to purchase new furniture – but sometimes this is not in our budget. When this is the case why not choose something from a garage sale or off of Craiglist. You can easily sand down any scratches and dents and repaint or refinish them. This will cost less then half the price you would spend on new furniture. Dark wood furniture is great because it is durable and it won’t show blemishes as fast. The style that you choose will depend on the theme you went with.

Wall Décor And Accessories

You can’t have a truly trendy bedroom until you have picked out wall décor and accessories to use around the room. For the windows you need to find a window treatment that will allow natural sunlight to stream in. pinch pleat drapes are great because during the day they bring light in – but at night they have a thicker curtain that will give you privacy. Blinds are good to use as long as you use wood blinds. These are much more durable and easier to clean than you standard mini blinds.

Wall décor you can use around the room include fake plants on the walls, sconces, candles, and mirrors. Do you like paintings or photographs? There is a big difference between the two and they can work in any room. You can hang up paintings of flowers and wine or you can hang up black and white photographs of your favorite city or of a beautiful beach.

I always like to scatter photographs of my family and friends around the room. You can place them on your nightstand or you can have small shelves along the wall and place a picture or knick knack on each shelf.
