How many times have we yelled at our teenagers to clean their rooms? It is something that we are always getting on to them for and yet it never seems to stay clean for very long. One of the best ways to keep everything in its place is to show them how to organize it.
To do this you need to start off by taking everything out of the room except for the bed. Make sure that you do remove everything out from underneath the bed. Have them move it all into the hall or the office.
Now sit down with them and sort through what they have. Have them throw away any obvious garbage and anything that they aren’t using anymore. Explain to them that they don’t need loose items hanging around just because they don’t want to part with it.
Have them vacuum the floors and dust the baseboards and ceiling fans. The smell alone will be an improvement to what they have been living in. Now that the floor is clean move the dresser and nightstand back into the room. If they have a desk put it back in as well.
Add a bookshelf or a magazine rack where they can put all of their schoolbooks and any other books or magazines that they enjoy to read. If your girl has a lot of shoes than buy her a shoe organizer that will hang on the door so they aren’t lying around the closet floor.
Buy large totes for any games that they have or things that they collect. On the wall you can put up a billboard where they can hang their several thousand pictures. Any loose items that don’t seem to have a place can go in a large tote and safely tucked underneath the bed.
