Most teenagers will spend most of their time out with their friends or inside of their bedrooms listening to their favorite music and hopefully taking care of homework. Because of this they will want to have a room that has everything they need and that reflects the things that they love and the personality that they have.
Many of them will have any idea of how they want it to look and will have even picked out pieces of furniture or decoration pieces that they will want to use. While these ideas are great and helps to create the ideal trendy teen bedroom it can be rather expensive for us to want to pay for.
The best way to fix this problem is to sit down with your teenager and make a list of everything they want and get an idea of the trendy design they wish to use. Remember to keep an open mind about the things they want. After they are finished go over with them any concerns that you might have with the design. Don’t be aggressive – but simply state anything that would be too difficult to get or to keep in their room. After you have listened to each other’s ideas give your teen a set budget that they are able to work with.
The best way to design a trendy bedroom for your teen is to know what type of activities or hobbies they love. If they are into softball or football then try to center everything around that. For girls they will most likely want a specific area that will have a vanity and everything they need to groom or study in the morning time. Your boys might want a small hoop or a study area in their room.
The idea of it all is to focus on what they want and to be creative with the space that you have. It is easier to give them a bedroom that is multifunctional. It will be a great hangout spot for when their friends come – but also a place where they can study without any distractions.
Explore options with your teen on how you can save money by doing certain things yourself. For example, instead of buying brand new furniture why not refinish and repaint the ones that they already have. You might even be able to find a way in which you can expand on the furniture they have to help make it bigger. You might also be able to find some unique furniture at garage sales and flea markets that only need some paint to make them look like new again.
Another creative way to redesign the bedroom without spending much money is to rearrange it. You will be amazed at how dramatic and different the room will look when you move the bed to the other room and place some furniture in the corner rather then flush against the wall.
In most cases your teen will want to repaint their room. Ask them what their favorite colors are and try to find a way in which you can incorporate them all. Girls usually prefer the lighter colors and boys usually go for the darker ones. A great way to make the room look more trendy and dramatic is to create an accent wall. This is usually the smallest wall in the room and has a completely different color from the other walls. In many cases it will be a few shades darker – but in the same color.
You can’t forget all of the accessories that have to go into the room. These accessories will help to tie the furniture and new paint together to finish off their trendy room. You can use posters of their favorite movies and pop stars, decorative light switches and ceiling fans and pictures of their family and friends. One accessory that is great for both boys and girls is to buy a large bulletin board where they can post pictures, small posters, and anything else they want.
